I’m Back Not Like Before – This is the Improved Bendy Version

I’ve been struggling, on my own, to cross-link my website to WordPress for the past three months.  Using WordPress technology would give me greater control over my website. I’ll be able to add pages, change text and develop a vidblog.  Great stuff.  Rather than keep ringing my Website Designer every time I want a comma moved, I can do this myself. Outsourcing my IT to India?  I didn’t need to go so far.  Just a wander up to Ground Coffee shop in Kemptown to read through instructions. I couldn’t wait to get started.

It should, theoretically have been relatively easy.  I had the back coding for the website.  I had easy access to my Webhost and WordPress manuals. Step by step, with patience I should be able to do this. I am Woman, Hear me roar.

It turned out not to be quite so easy.  I quickly disappeared down a rabbit hole of programming jargon, dashboard buttons to fight, cms caverns to cross (but only with the correct password), control panels to negotiate, buzzers and bells to get in the right order, where are Ant and Dec when you need them?, oh no, got that wrong, start again, do not pass ‘Go’, do not collect £200, I’m not a celebrity but get me out of here.

It has been an experience, in turn, infuriating, hopeful, hopeless, possible, maybe not, should I start again, frustrating and finally successful when I gave in and brought in the cavalry in the person of Pete Jenkins.

I have had to admit, and this is hard because I don’t like to admit defeat, that although I am not computer illiterate, I am probably only at the ‘useful phrases to get you from the airport to your hotel’ stage of being programming language fluent.

Now at last, I have landed at the correct destination, safe, intact and with all my personal baggage. I am curious about this strange WordPress country.  Will it be tourist friendly?  Will I be able to climb Add-a-plug-in Mountain? Nothing daunted, I step out with a stout stick and confident heart.  Oh, and Sherpa Pete at my back in case I skid on another banana skin and fall flat on my face.

You never stop learning in life do you?

Well I’m impressed. The blog looks great, so does the website. If you’ve got any tips about what (preferably free or very cheap) software to use to build a membership list, I’d love to hear it. Congratulations on this, though!

Hi Lucy. Heard so much about you from Annabel – all good of course. I appreciate your comments on my blog. Re. membership list, alas it has been my archilles heel. I’m just about to recruit some help with putting together a regular newsletter and building a community of like minded individuals who are all interested in ageing magnificently.
